The Mightiest of Rivers
The Amazon is the world’s second-longest
river. Only the Nile, in Africa, is longer. But if you measured rivers
by their volume of water that flows through it, the Amazon is the world
leader. On its own, the Amazon produces approximately 20 % of all the
water that the world’s rivers pour into the oceans. It collects
water from just over 40% of South America’s landmass while
extending from Iquitos in Peru all the way across Brazil to the
Atlantic ocean.

M/V RIO AMAZONAS
|
The M/V RIO AMAZONAS was built in the late
1800’s in Scotland. After following a long career as a
cargo/passenger ship on the Amazon river, it was completely rebuilt to
enable the international traveller to experience the Amazon in basic
comfort and also take advantage of an itinerary which explores life on
the Amazon river and its people.

A comfortable, fast ship to cruise between
Iquitos, Manaus and back on a monthly scheduled basis. On board there
will be a series of lectures; the many stops and shore excursions will
visit native villages, river towns, take jungle walks and a world of
other activities. The scheduled programs depart Iquitos on Tuesdays at
12:00 Noon and arrive in Manaus on Tuesdays (8 days later) at 09:00am.
The ship stays in Manaus 1 day and then starts up river on Wednesdays
at 07:00am and arrives into Iquitos (11 days later) on Saturdays at
08:00am.

Wednesdays and arriving Sundays. Up river ferry rides reverse the
pattern, departing Manaus on Wednesdays and arriving Belem on Sundays

Once you have the opportunity to observe the nocturnal animals and
perceive the change in the forest as the night falls, you will be

"Caboclo" family, navigation through the Anavilhanas Archipelago,and

M/V AMAZON EXPLORER
|
The M/V Amazon Explorer is a miniature cruise
ship, that because of its size, can explore many of the tributaries of
the Amazon river. One week a month it makes scheduled three or six
night round-trip cruises out of Iquitos on the river and up the
tributaries. Then it heads out for less traveled areas and is available
for charters during this period. The ship carries a Peruvian crew,
English speaking naturalist guides and is in radio contact with the
Iquitos office at all times.
