Colombia is often reported in
the media as being a drug-ridden, violent country - in fact a visit to
this country proves just the opposite! Surprisingly, the people are
very relaxed and friendly, their latin spirit shining through their
countrys’ problems. Small colonial towns along the Caribbean
coast, large national parks, Andean valleys and mountains and beautiful
rainforest combine to make a visit to Colombia a remarkable experience!!

Known for its beautiful
Caribbean beaches, friendly people and exquisite colonial buildings,
Cartagena should be on everyone’s itinerary when visiting
Colombia! The old town of Cartagena is walled by an old Spanish fort.
Abundant monasteries, churches, plazas and palaces are scattered
throughout the city, creating a wonderful place to explore part of
Colombia’s colonial past.
If it is beaches and warm Caribbean waters you are after, not far from
Cartagena are crystal clear waters and magnificent reefs. There is
abundant marine life, perfect for snorkelling and suba diving alike,
with wonderful beaches to relax on after a hard day’s swimming!
From upmarket holiday resorts, to budget accommodation, the Cartagena
coast has a lot to offer everyone!
If you are wishing to escape the hubub of towns, then a trip out to the
Parque Nacional Tayrona is a journey you will enjoy. Uninhabited
beaches and abundant wildlife combine to make a visit to this park
unforgettable—you may even wish to camp out on the beach,
sleeping on hammocks!
One of the greatest archaeological finds of the last century was La
Ciudad Perdida (”The Lost City)”. It is one of the larget
pre-Colombian towns discovered in the Americas and was built between
the 11th and 14th centuries. For those of you who don’t have much
time, you can take a helicopter tour, or if you are adventurous, you
may opt for a 6 day round trek (the trek is not too demanding).
