By boarding a ferry across the River Plate from Buenos Aires, you can virtually step back in time with a visit to the enchanting town of Colonia. As its name suggests, the town of Colonia was once a colony under control of both the Spanish and the Portuguese during different periods in history. The town is so historically well preserved, retaining most of its decorative buildings and lined with cobblestone streets, that it is considered a UNESCO world heritage site.

Visit the streets of Santa Rita, San Gabriel, the Matriz church, the Bastion del Carmen, the famous Calle de los Suspiros (street of sighs)– which is often used for historical films - the Puerta del Campo and the Plaza Mayor 25 de Mayo.
